Hokkaido Day 5
Fishing, Filming and Fun

Day 5 in Hokkaido was a hectic day - Kitami all the way to lake Akan. Started the day, went to Kitami city hall and met some of the wonderful civil servants there and provided a few lanyards as a token of appreciation for the wonderful time I had in Kitami. While there, I got the chance to (very briefly) speak with the section chief for their Disability Welfare services in the city of Kitami, whom I will be following up with by email to ask a few questions about Kitami’s disability supports. So far, traveling around Hokkaido and spreading awareness about Seattle and learning more about how to provide better disability supports and create better events has been the educational experience of a lifetime - one I won’t squander for the rest of my time here.
After this, I went to lake Akan in the center-east of Hokkaido. Went ice fishing - caught a lot of Smelt! They were delicious, there was a nearby restaurant to take the smelt to that tempura fried them whole. It was such a fun time - and caught on film too! (More on that later). Then, after finishing up on the lake, went for a walk around the village. It was beautiful - the architecture is interesting, and there are a lot of very unfamiliar-to-me cultural motifs related to the Ainu people, that I am excited to learn more about in the coming days.
Be on the lookout for my debut on the silver screen, yeah?
